Painted Eggs - Interactive Exhibition
The Ethnographic Museum of Moldavia within ”Moldova” National Museum Complex of Iasi, in collaboration with ”Al. Lapusneanu” Association and the Mayoralty of the City of Iasi organizes during the period 11 – 12 April 2009, on the ancient Lapusneanu road, the exhibition of folk art ”Painted Eggs”. The aim of the event is to promote one of the oldest crafts specific to this period, that is the painting or writing of the Easter eggs.
Having become a traditional museum event organized by ”Moldova” National Museum Complex of Iasi, the exhibition of painted eggs has now reached its 9th edition and by its shape and content, it announces the great feast of the Savior’s Resurrection. The aim of the event carried out on the Palm Sunday and the Saturday preceding it, the former being in itself a main Christian feast with ancient roots in the tradition of the Romanian people, preparing the climax of the whole Christianity, is to promote and raise awareness at the level of the general public, the art of egg painting, raised at the level of folk art by the creating craftsmen. The painting or writing of the Easter eggs acquires new valences during this period, when the sacred element is combined with tradition in a special symbolism.
With the occasion, the city of Iasi shall host for two days famous folk craftsmen acknowledged by the awards obtained in numerous such events in Romania and abroad. Most of them are coming from Bukovine, from localities such as Brodina, Paltin, Vatra Moldovitei, Vicovul de Sus, Radauti, famous for their authenticity and preservation of traditions. Dressed in the folk costume specific to their area, the artists shall delight the public with their demonstrations based on skillfulness and a wonderful creative mind.
