The permanent exhibition in its present aspect was inaugurated in 1997, the display stressing the communication capacity of the original objects and not of the auxiliary materials and fabrics which would burden the museum discourse in the previous exhibit.
The Museum also comprises its own stores and library, as well as a hall for temporary exhibitions, known as the “Orest Tafrali” Room, according to the name of the founder of the
Moldavia's History Museum publishes two scientific periodical magazines: Cercetari istorice and Buletinul "Ioan Neculce".
Nowadays, the Museum collections exceed the amount of 30.000 items, out of which many are of exceptional value and illustrative for the life of the human communities having lived on the East-Carpathian territory starting with the Paleolithic. The permanent display includes 20 rooms spreading over the total surface of 1470 square meters.
